Exc(-) condition. Plenty of signs of prior stage use, but this guitar is in fine playing condition and sounds great. 1 11/16" nut width. Cuban Mahogany (Swietina mahogany) back, sides and neck with Adirondack Red Spruce (Picea rubrens) top. Adirondack Red Spruce top has 2 minor cracks repaired - both are near binding at lower bout of treble side. Back has 2 repaired cracks near bottom center. Side (treble side), has a couple cracks repaired and a jack hole filled. There is a slight peghead crack repair, but it is extremely hard to find and never broke thru the peghead overlay. Original lacquer, but some darker lacquer has been oversprayed onto slim bare wood areas around edge of sides and back where lacquer was worn away and also around jack hole repair. French polish applied to pickwear around soundhole and pickguard. Back of neck shows hand wear thru the finish. New Ebony fingerboard and copy bridge perfectly professionally installed by John Joyner in early 1990's. This work was performed so well that it appears to be the original fingerboard and bridge. We have known this guitar since around 1992. It has been owned by 3 of the top acoustic musicians in the Northwest as well as owned by possibly the best orthopedic surgeon in Montana. It is a tried and true champion guitar with the usual 'snap and boom' that guitars of this era are known for... But also more... It has a wonderful balance that exhibits more full bass than some and also a roundness and smoothness that isn't found on every good D-18. This guitar is punchy and enunciated in single string solo work or walking bass notes between chords, but is also a great one for full chord blend with open chords or barre chords. It does have the chest thumping, bone jarring "cannon" sound. Huge presence, delightful tones, and power and projection and goodness. - See more at:
